Celebrating the good times!

Its a beautiful day, and even more brilliant because this afternoon I passed my driving test, first time!! Woot! Its been a struggle for me as I found some things so difficult, I feel a real sense of achievement having conquered it. And breathe, its over! I am also excited that I'll have that extra money for meeeeeeeee!

Now roll on Mr Orlando Bloom this evening, hope I manage to get some snaps!

Also, thanks to Jules for the comment RE: images, will try that next time! (Hopefully with Orlando pics... mwuahahaha!)

Where does the time go?

Seriously? What happened to this month???

Well, lots of things to update which I can't remember...

I didn't get a second interview at Oxford, was very disappointed but there we go. Went for a placement interview but wasn't particularly sure if I liked the place, waiting to hear from that now.

Been flat hunting and stuff, lost two flats in one day which was fun. First one was nice and spacious and lovely, but by the time we got to the agents to put our deposit down, the flat had already gone to someone else. Then we saw another that afternoon, it was smaller but in a better location, and when we put our deposit down we were thrilled. They rang me the next day to say it had already gone with another agent! How infuriating is that? Not had much luck since then.

Then we had graduation, that was cool! It wasn't as long as I expected, so it was a nice day.

Then I had a party to celebrate which was great fun. Finally, a chance to let my hair down and party!

Also spent that weekend reading the last Harry Potter book. Loved it, bawled my eyes out but loved it! I then went cropping on the sunday and done a few new layouts which need scanning at some point.

Then it was work work work. Went to see the new Harry Potter film, and then saw Transformers last friday. Transformers blew me away, I thought the special effects were incredible and loved the whole thing. Awesome!

My little cousin Max came to spend the night with us on sat just gone, he's soooo cute!

Then yesterday me, Steven and Luke went to the Arsenal stadium for the Emirates Cup. We had the most amazing seats, 4 rows from the side of the pitch! We saw PSG vs Valencia and Arsenal vs Inter Milan. The weather was gorgeous and I'm looking a bit pink today as we thought it was supposed to rain and were not prepared for 5 hours in the sun... One thing I was gutted about was that my favourite player/player I fancy alot, Tomas Rosicky, was out with an injury! If he had played he would have been right in front of me for 45 mins!! Dammit. We did spot him sitting near the dugout on the opposite side but he just looked like a blob, only knew it was him because he has longish hair!

Pleased to say Arsenal won the cup! Woot!

Today I'm chilling at home with Steven, then tomorrow I'm off to the theatre in the evening to see Orlando Bloom *swoon* in "In Celebration". Can't wait!

By the way, is there an easier way to insert pics with this thing???? Everytime I add an image it puts it at the beginning of the post so I have to drag them all back to position, then fix all the line breaks...not impressed!

The interview

Well, yesterday was quite an exciting day! Monday wasn't. Everything printing wise went wrong! Files couldn't be printed, couldn't be done in time as I wanted them, then I wasn't happy with some so had to reprint when I got home and they wouldn't print right on my printer either....it was a crappy day.

But yesterday I set off for Paddington feeling very much a grown up! I had my suit like attire which I quite enjoyed, and my big laptop looking bag with my portfolio box in it. Felt very real world! The journey to Oxford was lovely, it took my an hour and ten mins, which isn't bad considering the ten mins was getting from my area to Paddington. The overground trains are so much nicer than the tube, but I bet they must be a pain when they are late as they are less frequent. So I arrived in Oxford at about 12.30pm, and OUP is about 15 mins walk from the station, its very straightforward you literally follow the road. The building was gorgeous, on the outside its all old fashioned and architectural, with orangey yellow brickwork like Malta and big pillars with the ornate decoration at the top. Its absolutely massive! I have a pic on my phone I will upload, I should have taken my camera but I was so freaked with everything else didn't think at the time. Because I was so early I went in anyway to see if I could sit somewhere to eat my lunch and carry on reading Harry Potter 6, this is my third reading of it to refresh my memory before the new one! Have to say I'm glad I had it with me as time flew.

Inside the building is completely different to how it looks outside. Its very modern, bright, airy and new looking. Gorgeous and spacious, lovely cafe area with big comfy chairs and some tables for lunch, and a massive resturant which I guess many use as the staff canteen.

The interview seemed to go ok, I passed all the design offices and some of the team as I went to the main office. It was exciting to see. I showed the woman my portfolio and talked about my work, she seemed very keen on my projects and ideas. Then she asked me lots of questions which I think I answered ok, there were a couple I was a bit unsure about as I couldn't think up particular events on the spot, but I tried. By 3pm it was all done and I was on my way out, they said I will hear back either way soon, and the woman also said they could work around my graduation if needed, which was nice! So we'll see, I'm not getting my hopes up as its kinda too good to be true. I know its not likely that I will get the first job I applied to and had an interview for, plus its such a massive publishing house it is difficult to imagine me getting in. I can hope though, but if I get a second interview I'll be terrified: we have to design something for them, they will set a mini project. That will be what worries me as it will be pressure and a real live brief..... One step at a time I guess.

Nothing special happening today, off to work later and then going to the hall to test out my speakers for party. Wish me luck and keep fingers crossed that some good luck comes my way!

Rose on the Rocks

My eyes hurt alot. I've been on the computers all day and it hurts...I've had breaks don't worry. But I think I have square eyes now.

Been sorting songs out for my graduation party, not easy. Songs are mostly on ipod, I want them on mac. Sounds easy, but its not. You see if you stop your ipod and itunes syncing up (keeping exactly same songs on both) then when you put a song on ipod and delete from hard drive, its stuck on the ipod. You cannot go back. I found this out a few weeks ago, and finally today got around to trying Senuti, a program which has just saved me. It allows you to open you ipod songs in a separate program and then put them back onto the hard drive, hurrah! So I've been fiddling with this all day and think I've cracked it. Now I have to edit my playlist down as I have more hours of songs than hours of party...

A few doors down there's been a christening party, now tell me, why does the baby require booming music that the whole estate can hear??? So party over there, but its getting a bit annoying now. It started as just quiet reggae this afternoon which was quite fun to listen to, but as the evening has gone on its gotten louder and more thumpy and there's a bloke on the mic going "yeah yeah absolutely, 1 2 1 2, blah blah blah...."

But, while this was going on it inspired me to start testing out the speakers on my pc and mac for the party. Mac on its own isn't loud enough, but my pc speakers seem pretty impressive. So we hooked them up to the mac and it was super loud, rock on! So might have solved that problem.

Oh and my phone appears to be dead now too! Did I tell you I saved my USB stuff??? Well, it lived through its drowning, which is a relief. But my phone isn't ringing or making any noise and keeps vibrating more than its supposed to when I receive messages and stuff...doh. Luckily I've been considering going back to my old phone as I prefer it so had been in the process of copying things over anyway.

Now, I have a story from friday to tell. There is a promotion going on at the moment in our local pubs for "Rose on the Rocks". Basically, its your normal glass of Rose but with some ice cubes in it. But the promo is specifically for my fave rose wine, and it is served in a huge glass with pretty writing, and pink stirrers and a big pink bucket for the ice and bottle. I'm easily amused, and have decided I must have the glass, stirrer and bucket.

Phase one...complete. Actually, phase two is complete too as I got a pink stirrer as well. Shhh....

Portfolios and flats

Well yesterday was quite nice. I went to the docs and they finally gave me some antibiotics! Then I met Hannah for lunch which was nice, we went to a pub to eat and loved the whole not stinking of smoke after! Then I went off to work which was pretty quiet. My interview has been confirmed for Tuesday, and yes they want a portfolio. Bugger. So last night I was up until 2am finishing off my layouts and things to print...

The reason I stayed up late is because we were meant to go and view a flat at 12, but as you can see its 11am and I'm still here. They pushed it back to 1pm, so I could have gone to bed earlier, got up later and not feel so sleepy and cranky like now! Haha. Always the way.

I preordered my copy of the next Harry Potter book yesterday which was quite cool, they gave me a free book, Mister Monday (which I'm quite getting into) and £10 worth of vouchers! Rock on! So I'll be stocking up on books for my holiday, problem is that I have to use the vouchers by the 15th which is a month before my holiday....can I refrain from reading what I get??? Harry Potter will probably only last me a day!

So after this I'm going to continue Mister Monday then head off to see this flat with Steven. Then its off to Victoria to ServicePoint to get things printed for tuesday. Off out tonight to local pub to test out the smoking ban! Hurrah!

Exciting new things....

One of the reasons I decided to start this blog was because I felt I was starting a new phase of my life as I graduate in 2 weeks time and hit the real world!

Anyway, I've been applying to jobs which is always scary, but today I got an email offering my a first interview at Oxford University Press! This is even more scary as they are a BIIIIIG company, but its only a first interview so no hopes up. Plus, on the application form it said the second interviews are the same week as my graduation, so I asked what would happen if I did happen to get an interview and it was the same day as grad, their answer? Pull out of the interview. Oh. Poo. So not getting hopes up in case that happens!

Even more scary is that I need to start sorting out my portfolio, I've been sorting it, but not finished. Now I have three days to complete it if they want me to bring it, ahhh!!! More money. So I'm frantically trying to do that now!

Will update later today if I get anymore news, just thought that was quite exciting for now. I'm off to uni to pick up my work and then heading to work until 9, fun!

I'm enjoying being back to my banner designing. Used to do this years ago for people on the OBFiles but its kinda died down recently as I got less time. I've made another banner for here, so might switch to that at some point. I'll be one of those annoying people that keeps changing it all the time...

Its absolutely bucketing it down here, this weather is complete madness!!! I'm miffed as I think I killed my USB hub, I knocked a glass of water over earlier today and a few hours later a message popped up saying my hardware had malfunctioned.... dammit. Think I got water in it more than I thought.....so can't get any pics off my camera or use my usb stick until I get another. So better be fast as I have no other method of saving things externally or transporting files between my Mac and PC apart from CD (and I mean single files where CD just seems wasted...)

Was actually meant to scrap today but that so didn't happen once I started playing with this....

And here is a tag thing I found on Kirsty Wiseman's blog so thought I'd have a go....

My roommate and I once: baked muffins, then had a waterfight in the kitchen!
Never in my life have I: smoked or taken drugs
High school was : great fun. I miss 6th form!
When I'm nervous : I freak out. I get shaky, feel sick, hide behind things...
My hair : Is getting too long and annoying me. Is also very annoying to style as one bit will always stick out somewhere!
When I was 5 : I sang 3 blind mice in the middle of a circle of kids in reception
When I turn my head left : I can see the tv
I should be : in bed cos I'm tired and getting over the longest cold ever
By this time next year : I'd like a job and to have moved out to a new place with Steven
My favorite aunt is : you can't ask me that!
I have a hard time understanding : all the crazy scary things in this world. Why people have to mug, kill, blow people up etc etc. I just can't get my head around it and it terrifies me.
You know I like you if : I talk to you a lot and open up
My ideal breakfast is : don't know! I love any cereal in the morning, but its never the same. In summer its something like cornflakes with cold cold milk and a bit of sugar, in winter porridge with sugar, all warm and yummy!
If you visit my home town : its nothing special. You could go to the pub (now smoke free, hurrah!), the park or a cafe, but its not that exciting. Now get on the tube and go into Central London and its much more interesting.
If you spend the night at my house : you'll have to endure my ramblings, my constant email and forum checking, probably be kept up way later than planned, have to live in my messy room where you can hardly move.
My favorite blonde is : Nick Carter
My favorite brunette is : Orlando Bloom!!!!!!!!!! *Swoon*
The animal I would like to see flying besides birds : Erm... something big like an elephant or cow as it would just look so entertaining.
I shouldn't have been : given a debit card.... online shopping is lethal
Last night I: went to see Pirates 3 for the second time. Yummy pirates, Depp and Bloom, rock on!
A better name for me would be : stressball, or according to Steven, firecracker for my temper....
I've been told I look like : no one recently. When my hair is long and straight I've been likened to Avril Lavigne. Once got told I looked like Piper thingy from Coyote Ugly.
If I could have any car, it would be : VW BEETLE!!!!!!!!!! In pink, but Steven would not have that so its going to have to be blue or green.
I finally gave in and decided to try this blogging stuff out. I did LiveJournal when that was around but didn't do a very good job of updating... I'm hoping that I can with this as I'll use it to post my scrapbook layouts. Adding a banner was far more complicated than I thought. I saved my file as several different formats before I finally got it to show at full size! But its ok now, may change the name at some point as I'm rubbish at naming things...

Lets see how this goes!
