Well, yesterday was quite an exciting day! Monday wasn't. Everything printing wise went wrong! Files couldn't be printed, couldn't be done in time as I wanted them, then I wasn't happy with some so had to reprint when I got home and they wouldn't print right on my printer either....it was a crappy day.
But yesterday I set off for Paddington feeling very much a grown up! I had my suit like attire which I quite enjoyed, and my big laptop looking bag with my portfolio box in it. Felt very real world! The journey to Oxford was lovely, it took my an hour and ten mins, which isn't bad considering the ten mins was getting from my area to Paddington. The overground trains are so much nicer than the tube, but I bet they must be a pain when they are late as they are less frequent. So I arrived in Oxford at about 12.30pm, and OUP is about 15 mins walk from the station, its very straightforward you literally follow the road. The building was gorgeous, on the outside its all old fashioned and architectural, with orangey yellow brickwork like Malta and big pillars with the ornate decoration at the top. Its absolutely massive! I have a pic on my phone I will upload, I should have taken my camera but I was so freaked with everything else didn't think at the time. Because I was so early I went in anyway to see if I could sit somewhere to eat my lunch and carry on reading Harry Potter 6, this is my third reading of it to refresh my memory before the new one! Have to say I'm glad I had it with me as time flew.
Inside the building is completely different to how it looks outside. Its very modern, bright, airy and new looking. Gorgeous and spacious, lovely cafe area with big comfy chairs and some tables for lunch, and a massive resturant which I guess many use as the staff canteen.
The interview seemed to go ok, I passed all the design offices and some of the team as I went to the main office. It was exciting to see. I showed the woman my portfolio and talked about my work, she seemed very keen on my projects and ideas. Then she asked me lots of questions which I think I answered ok, there were a couple I was a bit unsure about as I couldn't think up particular events on the spot, but I tried. By 3pm it was all done and I was on my way out, they said I will hear back either way soon, and the woman also said they could work around my graduation if needed, which was nice! So we'll see, I'm not getting my hopes up as its kinda too good to be true. I know its not likely that I will get the first job I applied to and had an interview for, plus its such a massive publishing house it is difficult to imagine me getting in. I can hope though, but if I get a second interview I'll be terrified: we have to design something for them, they will set a mini project. That will be what worries me as it will be pressure and a real live brief..... One step at a time I guess.
Nothing special happening today, off to work later and then going to the hall to test out my speakers for party. Wish me luck and keep fingers crossed that some good luck comes my way!
